Also on Monday the 11th there is a City Wide meeting being held regarding the states plan to have an Ethanol train route through our city.  Details about the meeting and some very useful links are listed below.  As much as I want to go and voice my opinion regarding this I will be at the neighborhood meeting.

Monday, March 11th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Cafetorium at the Argenziano School
290 Washington Street, Somerville, MA

Along with late night train noise, the threat of serious derailment and fire incident is real. Ethanol train fires can only be put out by chemical foam. Foam would be stockpiled along the corridor and then have to be mobilized and transported to fight any fire. Typically they just let them burn out, but that would be catastrophic in Somerville.

If you have comments or questions related to the Ethanol Safety Study, please contact:

Paul Nelson, Project Manager(857) 368-9800

I plan on contacting Paul Nelson and expressing my dismay at this proposed Ethanol train route. I was a teenager when the 1980 chemical spill happened at Tufts & Washington Streets and I was also a daughter of a Somerville Firefighter.   I remember it well - it's something you don't forget.  Click here to see an article regarding that 1980 chemical spill.
