Somerville's 10th Annual Night Out

Mayor Joseph Curtatone and Somerville Office of Prevention (SOP) Director Cory Mashburn announce that, 
for the 10th consecutive year, Somerville Cares About Prevention (SCAP) 
will partner with the Somerville Police Department to host Somerville's National Night Out Against Crime and Drugs.

Scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th at Foss Park from 5pm to 8pm, National Night Out in Somerville
 will include a variety of youth activities led by the Boys and Girls Club, Boston Sports Club, and 
Target, Inc.; Police and Fire Department demonstrations; a state K-9 unit demonstration; performances
 by the Somerville Sunsetters, Red Tiger Academy of Martial Arts, and over 
30 tables with information about local agencies.  

National Night Out is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association 
of Town Watch and Target, Inc. to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support 
for local anticrime programs, build community spirit, improve police-community partnerships, and 
send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. For more i

Police Department, the Somerville Fire Department, the Somerville Health Department, and Cataldo 
allow SCAP to organize community-building events like National Night Out," said Mashburn.  "

 and commitment to providing information and activities to Somerville youth and residents."

Somerville Cares About Prevention is a community-based coalition supported by the 
City of Somerville's Health Department.  SCAP's mission is to reduce substance abuse
 among the residents of Somerville, as well as the harms associated with such use.
