Last night,
Mayor Curtatone hoisted a pair of mini scissors and cut the tiny
ribbon at the grand opening of Mµseum, a micro art museum in Union
Square Somerville that just may be the world’s smallest museum.
Mayor
Curtatone welcomed Mµseum to Somerville with a micro speech,
the presentation to the museum founders of an itty-bitty Ceremonial
Business License, and the installation of some very petite temporary
parking spaces just below the Mµseum. He also present some teensy
tiny surprises for Mµseum Founding Curator and Somerville artist Judith
Klausner and Mµseum Chief Engineer Steve Pomeroy also of Somerville. The
City of Somerville Arts Council, which provided financial support for
the Mµseum (just a little), also present the artists with a wee
certificate recognizing the huge value of their literally puny
contribution to the arts.
The Mµseum’s
first exhibition, “Invisible Cities,” will focus on the physical and
emotional landscape of the city; like the museum itself, the work
included will explore the intricacies of the urban environment, and what
it means to inhabit this mutual space. “Invisible Cities” includes work
by Mara Brod, Grace Durnford, Emily Garfield, and Ted Ollier. The show
will run through October 11th.
Where: 72 ½ Union Square (between The Independent and Subway)
More Info: Earlier this week, WBUR’s Artery blog took an advance look at Mµseum. More at the Mµseum website http://themicromuseum.com/.
