This is an e-mail update I received from School Committee Representative Steve Roix. If you are not already on Steve's mailing list - his information is below.
A quick pre-Thanksgiving week update:
Tomorrow (Friday) morning is a busy one for celebrations at East Somerville Schools:
There is a “Walk + Ride Celebration.” 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
at the East Somerville Community School (Cross Street side). Walk - or
ride a bike; we should enjoy this relatively mild November weather
while we can - on over and have hot coffee and hot cider.
Immediately after that, join me - I'll walk down the hill with you - for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Capuano Playground surface at 9:00 AM.
As I mentioned in my last email, I am having office hours Saturday from 10-11AM at Ola coffee shop, 112 Broadway.
From the highly touted El Sistema program at the ESCS:
- Exciting news that they have received an artist-in-residence grant from Target, to be used for a string quartet in residence.
- TheSomerville Public Schools Music Department and El Sistema Somerville invite us to participate in the 2nd annual Concert Clothing Drive to help our students dress for success this concert season.
Another opportunity to support our Public Schools as we enter the Holiday Season - Next Wave/Full Circle is selling beautiful 14” balsam wreaths. All money raised goes directly to fund student activities, field trips, and incentives for their reward system.
Also, please consider helping a community member in need: lifelong Somerville resident Mike Terrio (father to April Terrio-Manning, who I know as Somerville’s outstanding Animal Control Officer)
is leaving for Pittsburgh to wait for a life-saving double-lung
transplant. Mike’s family and friends are raising money to fund his
trip and offset expenses for his medically required travel companion. A fundraiser will take place at the On The Hill Tavern,
499 Broadway Somerville, Saturday November 30, 2013 at 7:30pm. The
suggested donation is $25.00. There will be a cash bar and plenty of
food that has been generously donated by the On The Hill Tavern. There
is a Go Fund Me page for anyone that would like to donate but is unable to make it out to the fundraiser.
Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday!
Thank you,
Steve Roix
