East Broadway StreetScape Updates

Dear East Broadway / East Somerville Community Member,

You are receiving this notification as part of the City of Somerville’s community notification process. You have signed up to receive alerts and information pertaining to ongoing construction on East Broadway, and as part of this process you will receive several emails per month with status updates and schedules for the project through its completion. Additionally, throughout the project, updates, schedules and other relevant information can be found at www.somervillema.gov/alerts/city-construction-updates  

In the meantime, should you have questions or concerns, you can and should contact any of the following:

These notifications will detail work scheduled for the next three weeks, with specific locations and hours of work to be completed. The official outline from MassDOT can be found attached to this email, as well as at the project website listed above. Here, I will include more specifics than are included in the outline so as to eliminate any confusion. For the period between Oct. 7th and 21st, the construction schedule is as follows:

**NOTE: Monday, Oct. 14 is a holiday and no work will be conducted on that date.**
  • Weeks of Oct. 8 and Oct. 15: Installation of new drainage lines. Illinois Ave. to east of Indiana Ave. This work involves on-street excavation and could have potential traffic impacts.
  • Thursday, Oct. 10, Friday, Oct. 11, and Tuesday, Oct. 15: Sidewalk excavation. Glen St. to Rush St. This work will impact properties in this area as sidewalks are excavated, though on-site crews will assist you with access to and from your residence or business.
  • Thursday, Oct. 10, Friday, Oct. 11, Tuesday, Oct. 15 and Wednesday, Oct. 16: Backfilling sidewalks to proper elevation prior to laying concrete. Glen St. to Rush St.
  • Thursday, Oct. 10: Pouring concrete. Glen St. to Rush St. This work will impact properties until concrete has set. Work crews can assist you with access to your property.
  • Friday, Oct.11: Rodent abatement efforts projectwide.
  • Friday, Oct. 11 and week of Oct. 15: Preparation work for amenities. Glen St. to Rush St. This work will include the installation of tree grates and frames on sidewalks.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Oct. 17: Excavation of sidewalks. Rush St. to Cross St. This work will impact properties in this area as sidewalks are excavated, though on-site crews will assist you with access to and from your residence or business.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 16: Pouring concrete. Glen St. to Rush St. This work will impact properties until concrete has set. Work crews can assist you with access to your property.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 16: Saw cutting work on sidewalks. Rush St. to Cutter St. This work will not have significant impacts to community members.
  • Thursday, Oct. 17, Friday, Oct. 18 and Monday, Oct. 21: Curb installation. Rush St. to Cross St.
  • Friday, Oct. 18, Monday, Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 22: Installation of underground conduit. Rust St. to Cross St. This work involves on-street excavation and could have potential traffic impacts.
  • Saturday, Oct. 19, and week of Oct. 21: Pouring concrete. Glen St. to Rush St. This work will impact properties until concrete has set. Work crews can assist you with access to your property.
  • Saturday, Oct. 19 through Thursday, Oct. 24: Utility work for underground water connections. Intersections of Pennsylvania Ave., Michigan Ave. and Cross St. . This work involves on-street excavation and could have potential traffic impacts.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 22 and Wednesday, Oct. 23: Backfilling sidewalks to proper elevation prior to laying concrete. Rush St. to Cross St.
  • Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 25: Backfilling sidewalks to proper elevation prior to laying concrete. Rush St. to Cross St.
  • Friday, Oct. 25: Rodent abatement efforts projectwide.
